I’m next available to work in the winter term that runs from September to December of 2008. If you have an engineering or software position you think I could fill, or are interested in working with me on an enterprise/startup project, we should get in touch. - An effective communicator, both written and oral.
- A leader when necessary, also a team player able to take direction and work well with a wide range of personalities.
- Honest, hardworking, and attentive to detail.
- Interested in new developments and able to stay ahead of the technology curve.
Technical Skills
- Extensive real-world C++, Java, and JavaScript/Ajax experience, from working on the large Maps codebase at Google.
- PHP, JavaScript, and CSS from We-Create and personal projects.
- Have used embedded ASM on x86 and H8/300 (the Lego RCX).
- Studied PLC ladder logic and ASM at school.
- Some exposure to AutoCAD and technical drawing.
- Basic shell: vi, rsync, grep, file operations.
- Longtime Windows user, recent Mac OS X convert, experience with various Debian systems.
- Strong design sense, casual experience with Photoshop and Inkscape.
Education
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechatronics Engineering, due to graduate in 2010.
Previously
- I’ve worked prior terms with RIM in Waterloo, Google in Sydney and New York, Molson in Toronto, and We-Create in Waterloo.
- I’ve written a well-received book about Google Maps for Apress, and a number of articles for the book’s blog.
- I’ve released code back to the community, including plugins for Wordpress, and source for mapping projects.
- I’ve participated in a number of adult robotics competitions, including making a 12 MHz LEGO robot play Connect-4.
- I established and continue to develop an active community site for my peers. It features a number of customized features, including a front-page news blog, forum, wiki, and active community calendar.
